Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Service in Toronto and the GTA
Riverflow HVAC provides installation, service, repair, cleaning, and maintenance for central air conditioners, central heat pumps, ductless air conditioners, and ductless heat pump systems throughout Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area.
Whether you need an older AC repaired, a new system installed, a ductless unit cleaned, or help diagnosing a cooling issue, we’ll explain your options clearly and recommend a practical next step. We service Toronto, Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, and surrounding GTA areas.
Central and ductless cooling systems
Most central and ductless AC or heat pump systems include an outdoor unit. The main difference is how cooling is delivered inside the home.
With a central air conditioner or central heat pump, the outdoor unit connects to an indoor evaporator coil. In many homes, this coil works with the furnace blower and ductwork to move air throughout the home.
With a ductless air conditioner or ductless heat pump, the outdoor unit connects to one or more indoor air handlers. These indoor units are commonly called ductless heads and are often mounted high on the wall.
Central systems are often a good fit when ductwork is already in place. Ductless systems are often a good option for additions, garages, offices, upper floors, older homes, or rooms that are difficult to heat or cool with existing ductwork.
Installation and replacement
Riverflow HVAC installs and replaces central air conditioning, central heat pump, ductless AC, and ductless heat pump systems.
We can help with central AC and heat pump replacement, indoor evaporator coil replacement, ductless single-zone and multi-zone systems, outdoor unit replacement, line sets, drains, controls, and related components.
Proper sizing and installation are important. A system that is too large, too small, poorly placed, or poorly installed can lead to comfort issues, poor humidity control, higher operating costs, and reduced equipment life.
Service, repairs and leak detection
If your AC or heat pump is not working properly, Riverflow HVAC can inspect the system, explain the issue, and provide practical repair options.
Common issues include no cooling, weak cooling, frozen coils, weak airflow, ductless heads leaking water, clogged condensate drains, unusual noises, poor humidity control, refrigerant leaks, and electrical issues with capacitors, contactors, motors, wiring, or controls.
Air conditioners and heat pumps are closed systems. Refrigerant does not get used up during normal operation. If a system is low, there may be a leak or another issue that needs to be assessed.
Riverflow HVAC can inspect the system and perform leak detection where appropriate. Simply topping up a leaking system is not a proper long-term repair.
AC and ductless cleaning and maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance helps air conditioners and heat pumps operate more efficiently, move air properly, reduce odours, and lower the risk of avoidable breakdowns.
For central air conditioners and central heat pumps, maintenance may include cleaning and rinsing the outdoor coil, checking electrical components, inspecting the condensate drain, reviewing airflow and filter condition, and testing system operation.
For ductless air conditioners and ductless heat pumps, maintenance may include cleaning and rinsing the outdoor coil, deep cleaning the indoor ductless head, cleaning washable filters, cleaning the indoor coil and blower wheel as needed, checking the drain pan and condensate drain, and testing system operation.
Most systems benefit from regular seasonal maintenance. Ductless washable filters should also be checked and cleaned regularly during heavy use, based on the manufacturer’s instructions and the conditions in the home.

AC & heat pump FAQ
Do you service both central AC and ductless systems?
Yes. Riverflow HVAC services central air conditioners, central heat pumps, ductless air conditioners, and ductless heat pump systems.
How often should AC and ductless systems be cleaned?
Most systems benefit from regular seasonal maintenance. Ductless filters should also be checked and cleaned regularly during heavy use, based on the manufacturer’s instructions.
Can you just top up the refrigerant in my AC or heat pump?
Air conditioners and heat pumps are closed systems, so refrigerant does not get used up during normal operation. If the system is low, a leak or other issue should be assessed before refrigerant is added.
Can an older R-22 AC system be repaired or recharged?
R-22 is an older phased-out refrigerant and is no longer used in new air conditioning systems. If an R-22 system is leaking or low on refrigerant, Riverflow HVAC can assess the equipment and explain whether leak repair, further testing, or replacement is the most practical option; we do not simply top up known leaking R-22 systems.
I’m replacing an old AC. Should I consider a heat pump instead?
Yes, it may be worth considering. A heat pump can provide central cooling like an air conditioner, while also providing efficient heating during milder weather to help reduce natural gas or propane use. Many modern inverter heat pumps also offer excellent cooling efficiency compared with basic single-stage AC units, and in many homes a central heat pump can work with the existing furnace and indoor blower setup, with the furnace remaining as backup heat when needed.
